Pixton comics as a learning tool on increasing the levels of achievement and interest in STEM
Gordana Pešić, Kübra Ersan, Mylona Aspasia

One of the priorities of “Eat Smart Save Your Land” Erasmus+ project was to increase the levels of achievement and interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, favoring access to STEM careers in the international food labor market. The project was implemented by using STEM modules, combined with integrated approaches like CLI and Inquiry Based Science.
This paper presents our observations on the positive effects of comic as a learning tool and as a mode of student’s results presentation, on their conceptual understanding and motivation.
During our investigation we saw that comics accompanied with other activities, such as mind maps and escape rooms, were very helpful as a learning or presentation tool as leaded to students’ engagement and motivation to science related subject, and motivation but also has great results on recall and transfer of learning, improvement of English and native language competence, but also to their 4Cs skills.
Thus we made the conclusion that maybe we have to consider including a STEM comic-based learning mode, alongside other activities, in our curriculum design so as to achieve a better recall and transfer of learning.
